5,000 lb Shark Washes Ashore
Long Island, New York– Reports of a 20-foot basking shark, washed ashore on a beach in New York’s Long Island. It died shortly after authorities arrived.
After examination to determine the cause of the death, the shark will be buried near the beach. Basking sharks are not considered dangerous to humans. They feed on smaller fish and plankton. They normally die in the waters.
