ARKANSAS STATE POLICE HIGHWAY SAFETY NEWS CONFERENCE – TUESDAY, MAY 13TH, 9 AM

The Arkansas State Police Highway Safety Office will conduct a news conference to announce an enforcement mobilization for safety belt use, known as “Click It or Ticket.”

WHERE:    Arkansas State Police Commission Chambers, One State Police
Plaza Drive, Little Rock.

WHEN:    Tuesday morning, May 13th, 9 AM.

WHO:    The Arkansas State Police and more than 100 participating state
and local law enforcement agencies will provide “high visibility enforcement” and join more than 12,000 law enforcement agencies across the country in a nationwide crackdown on safety belt violators.

Speakers for the news conference include:
* Colonel Winford E. Phillips, Arkansas State Police Director and Governor’s Highway Safety Representative
* Brian McLaughlin, Senior Associate Administrator for Traffic Injury Control, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
* Mattie Ballentine, crash survivor

WHY:    Increasing safety belt use is the most effective and immediate
way to save lives and reduce injuries on our roadways.  Research shows that safety belts, when used properly, significantly reduce the risk of serious injuries and fatalities during traffic crashes.
