SUMMARY:Light Up Conway
DESCRIPTION:As with many traditions in 2020\, our annual #ConwayChristmas celebration will look a little different this year. As we have learned in the past few months\, challenges can lead to new opportunities – new opportunities to connect\, to innovate\, and to celebrate. While Rogers Plaza will still play host to Conway’s Christmas Tree and several selfie opportunities\, this year’s Chick-fil-A and Baptist Health – Conway Illuminate includes new activities that are designed to bring a piece of #ConwayChristmas from Rogers Plaza to your home. \n#ConwayChristmas TV Special\nInstead of coming downtown to Rogers Plaza for the lighting of Conway’s Christmas Tree\, celebrate the start of the Christmas season from home with a #ConwayChristmas special on Saturday\, November 28. In addition to the tree lighting the special will include music from the Conway Symphony Orchestra\, reading of The Christmas Story\, and several holiday segments. It will air at 6:00 pm and again at 6:30 pm on Conway Corporation Channel 5. If you miss it on Saturday\, the special will air on KTHV – Channel 11 on Monday\, November 30 at 7:30 pm. \nLight Up Conway (powered by Conway Corp) Contest\nNew this year are both a residential and a business lighting contest. Our goal is to Light Up Conway with Christmas decorations throughout town. The residential winner will receive $500 and the business winner will receive an award to display. All participants must register by Monday\, December 7. All participants will be included on a map that is shared publicly. Full contest rules are regulations are available at www.conwaychamber.org/illuminate. \nIlluminate Advent Calendar\nWe invite you to hang the custom Illuminate ornament on your own Christmas tree and count down the days to Christmas by opening a window each day. Behind each flap of the Illuminate Advent Calendar\, you will find creative ways to connect with your community\, along with prompts for activities you can do with your own family. The calendar is available for pick-up at Chick-fil-A\, Crain Hyundai and Crain Genesis of Conway\, Lumber 1 Home Center\, and Sissy’s Log Cabin while supplies last. \nIn addition to the above activities there are many other things happening with Illuminate including: a Santa letter drop-box\, a drive-thru Santa visit at City Hall\, and #SissysFamilyChristmas Contest. Visit www.ConwayChamber.org/Illuminate to find a calendar of Christmas activities and more information on special contests and promotions. \nChick-fil-A and Baptist Heath-Conway Illuminate is presented by Car-Son Construction\, Conway Corporation\, Crain Hyundai and Crain Genesis of Conway\, Lumber 1 Home Center\, and Snap-on Equipment. Other sponsors include Sissy’s Log Cabin\, Garcia Wealth Management\, Nabco\, Oral Surgery of Central Arkansas\, PCSI\, Acxiom\, CenterPoint Energy\, Trinity Development\, and Virco.

SUMMARY:Wassailing They Shall Go on Main Street
DESCRIPTION:Take a walk on the wassail side Saturday\, December 12 in historic downtown Batesville.\nThe inaugural Main Street Wassail Walk will encourage people to stroll Main Street Batesville and get to know downtown merchants over a cup of wassail and hors d’oeuvres. \nA yuletide drink in England since Medieval times\, Wassail is a mulled cider\, spiced with seasonal items like ginger\, cinnamon and clove. \n“It can be hot or cold; it can be alcoholic or non-alcoholic\,” Main Street Batesville board chairman\, Brian Coltharp\, said. “It can be apple cider\, it can be pear cider. There are many different versions of wassail.” \nFor a $5 ticket benefiting Main Street Batesville\, available in advance or at participating merchants\, people can sample a wide variety of wassail styles from 10 confirmed participants: Beneath the Willow\, Main Street Batesville office\, Batesville Area Arts Council\, Thompson’s Jewelry\, Main Attire\, Tomahawk Chop Company\, Natural State Running\, Autry’s White River Furniture\, Clara Jane & Jax\, and Melba Theater. \nLasting from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.\, participants will receive a punch card and walking map that doubles as a ballot to vote for the maker of the ‘Best Wassail’. Cards can be purchased at any participating merchant. \n“We will have hand sanitizing stations available and merchants are abiding by capacity restrictions\,” noted Mandi Curtwright\, Main Street Batesville Executive Director. \n“And all the businesses are going to be providing their own COVID precautions\, whether it means they host it outside if the weather is permitting\, or they will have pre-packaged\, ready to grab-and-go items\,” Curtwright said. \n“Batesville is such a great place and I think we have a lot of hidden gems that sometimes people don’t know about\,” Coltharp said. “So\, this is a way for the businesses that participate to have their stores decorated and showcase what they have to offer\, as well as help out Main Street Batesville.”
