SUMMARY:Cosy Sheriden in Concert
DESCRIPTION:National award winning songwriter Cosy Sheridan will be appearing in concert at\nThe Faulkner County Library on Saturday\, March 9 at 1:00 PM. She will be accompanied on bass and harmonies by Charlie Koch. \nCosy Sheridan first caught the attention of national folk audiences in 1992 when she won the New Folk songwriting contests at The Kerrville Folk Festival and The Telluride Bluegrass Festival; The Boston Globe wrote “She is now being called one of the best new singer/songwriters.”\nShe has been on the road ever since\, playing clubs\, concert halls and coffeehouses from Seattle to Berkeley and across and across I-80 to Omaha\, Chicago and then to Boston where she now makes her home. On her new CD\, Sometimes I Feel Too Much\, she writes of these years on the road in her song Woody Guthrie Watch Over Me. \nA Cosy Sheridan concert is a wide-ranging exploration: love songs for adults – and practical philosophy for a complicated world. She has written about the stock market crash of 2008 and fall-out from uranium mining in the American southwest. She has re-written \nGreek myths: Persephone runs away with Hades the biker. And then there are her signature parodies on aging and women.\nBacked by the strong rhythms and harmonies of her bass player Charlie Koch\, Sheridan’s concerts are full of energy and emotionality. Her songs are carefully crafted – and often shorter than the average folk song. “Cosy writes intelligent and clever lyrics with stickable melodies\,” wrote Sing Out Magazine. She plays a percussive bluesy guitar style – often in open tunings and occasionally with 2 or more capos on the guitar. \nThroughout her 25 year career\, Cosy has continued to win fans and also rave reviews: her 2014 release\, Pretty Bird\, was chosen as one of Sing Out Magazine’s “Great CDs of 2014.” For the past 20 years she has taught classes in songwriting\, performance and guitar at workshops and adult music camps across the country. In 2008 she co-founded the Moab Folk Camp in Moab\, Utah. \nTo hear cuts from her cd\, or to see video of Cosy’s shows\, go to www.cosysheridan.com.\nFor more information about the concert email nancy@fcl.org or call the library at 501-327-7482

SUMMARY:Beau Anderson Glass Artist
DESCRIPTION:Beau Anderson\, glass artist\, will be the Featured Artist in the Arkansas Craft Gallery Saturday March 9 from 10 to 5. Beau has demonstrated and taught flame working soft glass at the Corning Museum of Glass\, Pittsburgh Glass Center\, and The International Glass Beadmakers Gathering. In 2003 he developed a revolutionary new bead release technique\, called Liquid Core\, using a tungsten mandrel. \nBeau has had the honor of installing studios and demonstrating in France\, Ireland\, Switzerland\, Spain\, and Northern India in the Tibetan home of the Dahli Lama\, as well as Stone County and North Little Rock. \nHe has been featured in Ornament Magazine\, Bead and Button magazine\, in Cindy Jenkin’s book\, Beads of Glass\, 1000 Glass Beads by Lark Books\, and The History of Beads by Lois Sher Dubin\, Abrams Books\, among others. \nAfter sharing his love for glass in many workshops he began creating 3 dimensional forms in glass. In 2008 Beau was fortunate enough to take a workshop with the Master in Soft Glass Sculpture\, Lucio Bubacco in Murano\, Italy. Since then he has been pursuing the elegant fluid expression of Flame worked Soft Glass Sculpture\, integrating nature with human forms in frozen motion\, communicating their complex interdependence. \nBeau and his family members are a part of the Off the Beaten Path Studio Tour Sept. 13-15 at the QMC Building on Sawmill Road\, north of Mountain View. As members of the Arkansas Craft Guild\, they will again have a booth at Artisans Market on the Square during Arkansas Folk Festival\, April 19 and 20 in Mountain View. The Guild was incorporated in 1962 as a for-profit cooperative to market quality handicrafts\, and to further develop the skills of these artisans\, now headquartered in Mountain View at the Arkansas Craft Gallery\, open Tuesday throught Saturday from 10 to 5. \nBeau sells kits with instructions in this method\, plus beads from the entire family at http://beauxbead.com. Updates on classes and shows can be found on several Facebook profiles of family members.
