SUMMARY:Arkansas Symphony Orchestra Continues 2020-2021 Mainstage Season with "Serenades"
DESCRIPTION:The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra presents the second concert of the 2020-2021 Stella Boyle Smith Masterworks Series. Serenades will be streamed from the Robinson Center on February 27 at 7:30 p.m. and February 28 at 3:00 p.m. Due to health and safety precautions\, the program will be presented virtually\, available for a minimum donation of $10. Concert information and the stream are available at www.ArkansasSymphony.org/serenades. The Stella Boyle Smith Trust is the Masterworks Series sponsor.\n\nThe ASO will perform music from Romantic composers Richard Strauss and Antonin Dvorak. Strauss’s work for strings and Dvorak’s work for wind ensemble are “serenades\,” a genre of orchestral writing that flourished during the Classic period\, with the most famous example Eine Kleine Nachtmusik by Mozart. Serenades were originally written for outdoor special occasions\, such as garden parties\, and tend to be light and refreshing in nature.  Interim Artistic Director Geoffrey Robson said\, “If the first Masterworks program was a reintroduction to the sound of orchestra strings\, this program does the same for wind instruments.”\n\n\n\n\n\nThe 2020-2021 Stella Boyle Smith Masterworks series was initially scheduled to start in September of 2020\, but the season was postponed due to the pandemic. ASO will present Serenades virtually\, and the orchestra will announce plans for the March\, April\, and May programs closer to the events.\n\nThe public release of Serenades has been rescheduled from February 20th and 21st to February 27th and 28th. This schedule change will allow more time for editing and producing the virtual concert for the best viewing experience.

SUMMARY:Giving Tree Grants-Cleburne County Community Foundation Deadline
DESCRIPTION:Grants Available for Charitable Programs in\nCleburne County\nCommunity Foundation Accepting Online Grant Applications January 10 – February 15 \nHeber Springs\, Ark. (January 6\, 2021) – Nonprofits in Cleburne County can go to arcf.org/givingtree beginning January 10 to apply online for grants through Cleburne County Community Foundation\, an affiliate of Arkansas Community Foundation. Applications must be submitted online by February 15.\n“Since our affiliate was formed in 2004\, we’ve awarded $938\,000 in grants to benefit Cleburne County\,” said Susan Vowels\, Executive Director. One of our grantees\, The CALL of Cleburne County received a grant to educate foster families to be equipped with skills that are useful when foster children are placed in their homes.\nThis year\, the Community Foundation is accepting two different kinds of proposals\n1. Projects with a special emphasis on early literacy are eligible for Early Literacy grants. Applicants who fit into this focus area should look for the application titled “Early Literacy.” Proposals for Early Literacy should be aimed at increasing local students’ literacy through one or more of five focus areas: 1) parent and community engagement\, 2) school readiness\, 3) classroom instruction\, 4) chronic absence prevention and intervention\, or 5) summer learning loss prevention. Emphasis should be on children ages 0 to 8. \n2. Proposals serving all other charitable purposes in Cleburne County are eligible for Giving Tree Grants\, which typically range from $500 to $2500. At this time\, the Community Foundation is not considering grant requests from organizations outside Cleburne County\, even though services may be provided in this area people in Cleburne County. Applications for causes other than literacy can be submitted by completing the Giving Tree application. \nThe deadline for both applications is February 15.\nAny IRS 501(c)(3) public charity\, public school\, government agency or hospital in Cleburne County is eligible to apply. Other applicants may be considered if the project has a clear charitable purpose for the public benefit. Grants are not made to individuals. Applications will be reviewed by a grantmaking committee from Cleburne County Community Foundation.\n“Through local Giving Tree grants\, our state’s nonprofit organizations find support as they implement great ideas to improve their communities\,” said Heather Larkin\, president and CEO of the Community Foundation. “Giving Tree grants are selected by local people in each of our affiliate areas and awarded to local organizations.”\nFunding for the Giving Tree program comes from hundreds of Arkansas donors who support the work of the Community Foundation.\nArkansas Community Foundation is a nonprofit organization that fosters smart giving to improve communities. The Community Foundation offers tools to help Arkansans protect\, grow and direct their charitable dollars as they learn more about community needs. By making grants and sharing knowledge\, the Community Foundation supports charitable programs that work for Arkansas and partners to create new initiatives that address the gaps. Since 1976\, the Community Foundation has provided more than $314 million in grants and partnered with thousands of Arkansans to help them improve our neighborhoods\, our towns and our entire state. Contributions to the Community Foundation\, its funds and any of its 29 affiliates are fully tax deductible.

Gallery hours are Tuesday – Friday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. \n“We are excited to be able to recognize the wonderful and diverse talent of visual artists throughout Arkansas\,” said Stacy Hurst\, secretary for the Arkansas Department of Parks\, Heritage and Tourism. “Small Works on Paper showcases artists from every corner of our state and gives art lovers the opportunity to discover emerging artists and experience one-of-a-kind artworks they may otherwise never see.” \nSmall Works on Paper is a juried exhibition that showcases artwork by Arkansas artists that is no larger than 18 by 24 inches. This year’s exhibition features two works by Batesville artist Ian Scott Campbell\, along with the work of 25 other Arkansas artists. SUMMARY:Wassailing They Shall Go on Main Street
DESCRIPTION:Take a walk on the wassail side Saturday\, December 12 in historic downtown Batesville.\nThe inaugural Main Street Wassail Walk will encourage people to stroll Main Street Batesville and get to know downtown merchants over a cup of wassail and hors d’oeuvres. \nA yuletide drink in England since Medieval times\, Wassail is a mulled cider\, spiced with seasonal items like ginger\, cinnamon and clove. \n“It can be hot or cold; it can be alcoholic or non-alcoholic\,” Main Street Batesville board chairman\, Brian Coltharp\, said. “It can be apple cider\, it can be pear cider. There are many different versions of wassail.” \nFor a $5 ticket benefiting Main Street Batesville\, available in advance or at participating merchants\, people can sample a wide variety of wassail styles from 10 confirmed participants: Beneath the Willow\, Main Street Batesville office\, Batesville Area Arts Council\, Thompson’s Jewelry\, Main Attire\, Tomahawk Chop Company\, Natural State Running\, Autry’s White River Furniture\, Clara Jane & Jax\, and Melba Theater. \nLasting from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.\, participants will receive a punch card and walking map that doubles as a ballot to vote for the maker of the ‘Best Wassail’. Cards can be purchased at any participating merchant. \n“We will have hand sanitizing stations available and merchants are abiding by capacity restrictions\,” noted Mandi Curtwright\, Main Street Batesville Executive Director. \n“And all the businesses are going to be providing their own COVID precautions\, whether it means they host it outside if the weather is permitting\, or they will have pre-packaged\, ready to grab-and-go items\,” Curtwright said. \n“Batesville is such a great place and I think we have a lot of hidden gems that sometimes people don’t know about\,” Coltharp said. “So\, this is a way for the businesses that participate to have their stores decorated and showcase what they have to offer\, as well as help out Main Street Batesville.”
