Faulkner County’s first heat-related death

The first heat-related death in Faulkner County was on Wednesday with temperatures reaching 104 degrees Wednesday afternoon.

Mary Jo Lozano, age 66, of Mayflower Arkansas died at her residence after falling in the driveway.

Coroner Patrick Moore of Faulkner County ruled the death accidental as a result of environmental exposure.

According to Moore, Lozano went to town to buy groceries just before noon on Wednesday. After returning to home it appeared Lozano stumbled and fell in the driveway. Lozano, Moore reported, was weak from previous medical conditions and was unable to pick herself up after her fall. She was found by her daughter-in-law at 5:35 p.m. with her car motor still running and parked in the yard and groceries inside.

Moore and Faulkner County sheriff’s officers ruled out any foul play in the death.
