Gravel Road Maintenance Workshop in Mountain View

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and US Fish and Wildlife Service are hosting a workshop on Alternative Maintenance Practices for Unpaved Roads at the Ozark Folk Center in Mountain View, August 24-25. Friends of the North Fork and White Rivers (FNFWR) is sponsoring the event as well.

The event will address simple, inexpensive practices that effectively reduce drainage and maintenance issues on unpaved roads. The workshop is aimed at counties, municipalities, road maintenance personnel, private contractors, landowners and others who manage unpaved roads.

The first day will be class room setting with discussion of best management practices and examples. The second day will be a field day with a visit to a demonstration site and work done by the Stone County Road Department.

“We’re really appreciative these organizations, agencies, county government and our river conservation group can work together at the “ground” level. This saves taxpayer dollars, keeps our rivers clean and makes it easier for everybody to get around,” said Gene Dunaway, local FNFWR Board member.
