Local Jeweler Tara & Co. Presents Gift to Cancer Center of Excellence

Tara & Co., local jeweler located at 1545 E. Race Ave., found a golden opportunity to give with purpose this holiday season. Owners Van and Rachel Simpson presented a $1,500 check to the White County Medical Foundation in support of the Cancer Center of Excellence. This donation brings Tara and Co.’s total given to the Cancer Center to $3,000.

“We have always wanted to be a part of bringing the Cancer Center of Excellence to our community, as cancer affects so many people,” Van Simpson said. “My wife and I were impressed by the care she was given at CARTI/Searcy during a battle with cancer nearly 10 years ago. The staff and doctors there gave us the feeling that they genuinely cared; that is not something you find everywhere. As we learned, dealing with cancer is an incredibly stressful time of life; there is no need to drive any further than the Cancer Center for top-notch medical care.”

“On behalf of our staff at the Cancer Center of Excellence, I want to express our thankfulness to Tara & Co. for their contributions,” said Foundation Executive Director Cassandra Feltrop. “There is great meaning tied to this gift because Rachel is a survivor. It is our hope that in the future, thousands of lives will feel the positive impact of the Cancer Center and the good work the staff is doing for patients in our area.”

The Cancer Center of Excellence was built through a partnership between White County Medical Center, CARTI/Searcy, White County Oncology and RAPA/Searcy Breast Center. Located at 415 Rodgers Dr. in Searcy, the Cancer Center encompasses a chemotherapy treatment center, radiation therapy, the Searcy Breast Center, a Diagnostic Center with PET Scanner, appearance center, chapel, conference/education room and counseling center. Through this venture, these healthcare partners have ensured residents have an outstanding facility close to home to receive excellent, screenings, detection and cancer care.

The most advanced technology each healthcare partner has to offer converges in the new Cancer Center, which leads to providing a comprehensive approach to cancer diagnosis and treatment. Imaging services in the Cancer Center include the latest in digital mammography, located in the Searcy Breast Center. Also, CARTI features the most advanced Linear Accelerator in the country, which is the first to be installed in Arkansas.

Another important piece of new equipment in the Cancer Center is a new PET scanner, which is vital in diagnosing cancer. Physicians previously relied on a mobile PET scanner that visited Searcy only once a week, which meant a limited number of patients could be scheduled in one day. The permanent PET scanner allows greater flexibility in scheduling appointments and will allow for many more patients to be seen during the week.
