Two positions are open this year on the Mountain View School Board, with races in both.
In Zone 3, Timmy Decker and Bob Jones are candidates. Chris McCollum is also on the ballot but has stated publicly earlier this month that he does not wish to be considered for the position.
Three candidates will compete for the Zone 5 position – current board member Lorraine Jordan and challengers Jana Cash Wickham and Kelly Sport.
The election is Tuesday, Sept. 21, with voting at two polling sites. Residents of Zone 3 will vote at First Baptist Church, and residents of Zone 5 will vote at Vine Avenue Baptist Church. Only residents of these two zones will vote in this election. The county is divided geographically into seven zones, with a member from each zone, and the terms are staggered.
Voters who are unsure what zone they live in can find out at www.voterview.org, or by calling the Stone County Clerk’s Office. The map is also available at the Leader office and online at www.stonecountyleader.com.
