The Ozarka College Culinary Arts Department, located on the Melbourne campus, is offering two courses this spring for non-degree seeking students. Anyone interested in completing the courses is encouraged to enroll.
Safety and Sanitation will be offered as an online course and Basic Food Service and Nutrition will be Mondays and Wednesdays from 2 – 4:20 p.m. Both will be taught by Executive Chef and Lead Instructor Lou Rice.
Basic Food Science and Nutrition will cover basic concepts of nutrition, including factors that impact nutritional practices, and the study of food components, market standards for products, grades and labeling. Safety and Sanitation will focus on the control of bacteria and knowledge necessary to practice safe food handling techniques, from receiving through production and service of food to the public.
Both courses are three credit hours.
The spring semester is scheduled to begin Monday, Jan. 13.
