Sign Up For Early June Craft Classes At Arkansas Craft School

May 7, 2013 by Cotton Rohrscheib

Although we are especially excited about the classes that will be offered as a part of Sustainability Weekend, May 31 – June 2, which include Ultimate Organic Skincare with Amy Hazel ($75.00), Building an Earth Oven with Pete Klinkhammer ($175.00), From Potpourri to Procion, a dyeing workshop with Dana Shaeffer ($175.00), Fermented Foods with Carrie Marry ($75.00), Straw Bale Gardening with Maureen Brennan Skinner ($30.00), and Mini-ponics 101 with Missy Brown ($30.00), we don’t want you to forget about the other early June classes to be offered through the Arkansas Craft School.

Ed Pennebaker offers the opportunity to learn to blow glass in a professional, working glass shop, with his class, Adventures in Glassblowing, held in Ed’s Osage, AR studio.  For students new to glass blowing, fundamentals such as gathering the hot glass will be taught.  More experienced students can expect to advance their skills according to their level.  The class will be held June 3 – 6, and the cost for the 4-day tuition is $475.00.

The weekend of June 7 – 9 will feature two workshops taught by local artists Jim Crowell and Becki Dahlstedt.  Award-winning ABS Master Bladesmith, Jim Crowell will be teaching Introduction to Knifemaking at his personal knife-making shop near Timbo, Arkansas.  This class is for beginning knifemakers, and covers how to make a simple stock removal knife. The student will layout, cut out, grind, heat treat and handle a simple full tang knife.  Students can go home with a simple, serviceable knife of their own manufacture.  Tuition for the three-day class is $425.00.

The same weekend, Mountain View potter, Becki Dahlstedt will be teaching Essential Throwing Skills, a class which will focus on essential skills for making pots on the potter’s wheel.  Demonstrations will be given at the beginning of each class period, and the remainder of time will be dedicated to students’ hands on the clay – with individualized instruction based on your skill level.  This is an excellent class for those who would like an introduction to the art of making pottery on the potter’s wheel, or those who would like an intensive on improving their throwing skills.  Tuition for this three-day class is $175.00.

Visit the Arkansas Craft School’s website, www.arkansascraftschool.org for more information on these and other upcoming classes, as well as registration forms and scholarship applications.  The Arkansas Craft School, located on Main Street in Mountain View, Arkansas is dedicated to the education of aspiring and practicing craft artisans for success in the Creative Economy.  The Craft School partners with Ozarka College which offers Continuing Education credits for all of its courses.  Support for the Arkansas Craft School is provided, in part, by the Arkansas Arts Council, an agency of the Department of Arkansas Heritage, and the National Endowment of the Arts.
